This month plays out in our psyches more than in the outer world. It involves personal adjustments. There are plenty of shocking external events taking place but the impact for us as individuals is felt very deeply and subtly changes our value systems, our wants and needs and what is most important for us. This is due to the nature of our solar system with all planets clustered together, apart from the Moon which helps to cycle and project these influences. What we find is that there is mass confusion out there as well as uncertainty which triggers our own re-evaluations.
April 1 begins with a gentle prompter as to how and where your values suitable for your spiritual growth can be incorporated from what you are witnessing in the world. April 2 sees the Third Quarter of the Moon with a final crisis as to your agency in the world. Do you effect change in your space or do you respond to what is directed at you?
This crisis arises just as Mercury moves into retrograde motion on April 2 and so a gradual awakening occurs, of issues that have lain dormant for the past three months. There is a reaping of the results here over the next week leading up to the inferior conjunction of Mercury when afterwards new intentions are created.
On April 4 Venus conjuncts Neptune, softening the internal tensions. This energy is yielding, devoted, altruistic and at times unrealistic. You are more likely to be led easily or be deluded into following others now with strong urges for martyrdom. However, when used for contemplative work, it can help you soften any conflict.
April 7 and 8 aligns the Sun with Jupiter and Chiron, favouring spiritual practices and contemplation. Examine your own underlying wounding. Are you pushing your own values in a dire need to compel meaning or are you trying to be genuinely helpful to others?
The Total Solar eclipse occurs on April 8, crossing over the breadth of the USA, with much playing out over the next six months whilst at this subdued time it will not immediately bring strife. But issues around how well you are mediating with the world at large becomes more evident. In the more general social arena, this timing coincides with judicial decisions around the extradition of Julian Assange and what this then means for free speech in the Western world. As mentioned in my blog on the eclipse, The eclipse conjuncts Chiron in Aries with a wounding to individuality being tried and tested. What sort of world have we participated in creating and nurturing? With Mercury novile Saturn, there is a calling for emotional adjustments to your value system. Does this rise above mundane concerns to encompass more lofty and altruistic values?
Mars conjuncts Saturn on April 10, paralysing self-will while being good for hard work requiring endurance. It can also indicate fights with authority figures or anger which turns into depression.
We reach the halfway mark with Mercury retrograde as it makes an inferior conjunction with the Sun. This is the beginning of the next Mercury cycle where over the next 3 months there are new attempts at influencing your world in another way. But Mercury continues to move slowly backward, making a semi sextile aspect with the conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus from April 13 and 14. Here we see altruism in the name of recreating new and revolutionary values based upon what is taking place in the world.
April 15 brings us to the First Quarter Moon, where tensions build as you receive feedback about your influence. Then Mercury conjuncts Chiron as Mars moves semi sextile to both these bodies. Indicating an activation of latent resources within your psyche, from your deep past or previous lives. This can enable you to draw on an innermost facet of yourself, not usually accessible. This draws you towards altruistic, transcendental and collective goals. Mercury also conjuncts Venus and the Sun is semi sextile Neptune, softening all the Mars contacts at this time.
In preparation you may need to confront “unfinished business” as there is a dissolution of self-will and the making of the various necessary social adjustments that comes with these changes. With Mars sextile the Jupiter-Uranus conjunction, there comes a lot more daring than is usual as you feel bolstered to break free from any constricting identification.
The Sun moves into Taurus and questions around whether or not your values are shaped by your fears or insecurities becomes the focus of the next month. With Venus conjunct Chiron on April 21, the question also turns to “are your values aligned with your self-rule or guided by what others expect from you?” Today also sees the Sun square Pluto, testing you, forcing you to make some radical changes. Old behaviours which have outlived their usefulness will become self-evident. There can also be clashes and tensions with authority figures. If you enjoy the various aspects of yourself being challenged then these areas hold fruit and value for you in the future. Keep note of them and explore the changes you feel you need to make. Today is also a day for machines breaking down. So take time out as well to fix them as you will possess a good eye for doing this work.
Then we have the Full Moon on April 22 where tensions reach a peak in you clarifying and actualising your values. On April 24 Mercury turns direct at 16 degrees of Aries, just as it conjuncts the North Node. An auspicious time ahead as society returns to full swing, acting out the renewed roles stemming from the regression period.
Over the final week of April we have a number of influences with Mercury semi sextile Saturn which integrates and preserves the integrity of your intuitive capacities with an especially strong sense of clear-mindedness. This period will also be good for planning and turning tricky situations around or else having a fruitful retreat into self contemplation.
With Venus semi sextile Mars, there is a redefining of your connections and alliances whilst recognising how your values are implicit in these associations. With Mars conjunct Neptune, there is a softening of your assertiveness and the urge to perform some selfless service for others possesses you. However you are also cautioned here as this is also not a robust time. So do not push yourself or you are liable to get sick. Be careful of everything you ingest – foods, substances and medicines, as you are more sensitive to all these things than you are normally. This time will also see more generally an increase in the rate of infections.
Then Venus moves into Taurus on April 29 where this next month will be a fruitful time for activities closer to home, for beautifying your home and surrounding environment as well as attending to your close relationships, building bridges and realigning your values. Venus will also be semi square Saturn, grounding this sense with a focus upon aligning your values with the duties you owe to others or feel you should owe.
